My Work

Data Stories

Comparison of School Counselor Shortfalls and a School’s Free and Reduced Lunch Percentage Challenged the status quo of access of students access to school counselors. This document along with other documents submitted by the CTU - Counselor’s Committee lead to the creation of equity positions to help address schools with high student-counselor ratios.

Conversation About Time- Past Allocations & Future Recommendations Utilization of time analysis data that leads admin through the the value of the school counselor role and presents challenges in a student centered way.

Counselor & Community Collaborations

Partnerships with advisory committees, industry leaders, and other school counselor allow for advocacy to happen on a larger scale. Goal is to address student equity issues and further elevate the profession of school counseling. Current partnerships include:

High School Transition Advisory Committee: This committee is reviewing the current GoCPS and high school application process that exist in Chicago Public Schools. Policy and procedural recommendations are discussed and submitted to help address access and equity issues in the high school application process.

SCUTA: Currently serving as the Illinois SCUTA ambassador and working in collaboration with the CEO to further develop SCUTA. Focus is on counselors to use effectively for data collection and advocacy.

School Counselor Collaborative on Adult Self-Care: This group formed over the summer as the needs of self-care for counselors, teachers, and staff became more evident. This collaborative group is collecting and creating a resource toolkit to help support counselors with having the resources needed for this upcoming year.

Tech Creations

Technology can be used to make our work more time efficient and create resources that can be shared with the click of a button.

CASEL Self-Assessment: In preparation to meet the needs of staff virtually and honor minutes provided for professional development the CASEL self-assessment was converted to an online format. (*CASEL created self-assessment. The transfer to a google sheet is solely for ease of access virtually. It is not being used for commercial purposes or personal capital gain.)

Virtual Library: In light of the recent events it became clear that students needed a place to explore diversity, race, and equity issues. In collaboration with teachers a list of culturally and socially relevant books was created. In partnership with a business a scholarship was created so cost was not an issue for students to select a book of their choice.

Curriculum

Success Bound: Co-Wrote to support students with building resiliency, advocacy, and organizational skills that would increase propel their post-secondary success through knowledge and skill-building. Success Bound is utilized throughout the district of Chicago Public Schools.

Cost of Segregation: In partnership with Metropolitan Planning Council I wrote a curriculum to help educate students in Chicago about the history and current cost of segregation within Chicago. This curriculum also aims to support students in exploring and understanding policies that aim to create a less segregated Chicago.
